Purple Ronnie, the nation’s favourite romantic rhyming stick man, turns 25 this year – and so we were delighted to arrange for his creator, Giles Andreae, to appear on BBC Breakfast this week.

As well as talking about Purple Ronnie’s history over the past quarter of a century, Giles created a poem to give the British Women’s Football team some extra support and penned a few odes to presenters Charlie Stayt and Susanna Reid.

We hear that 200 people signed up to follow @iampurpleronnie on Twitter within minutes of Giles’s interview. What a charismatic chap he is!
